Angry CV Joint

I am in the process of removing the engine from my 914. I was following the tech. article from pelican, and I was to the part about removing the 12 star bolts and seperating the CV joint. The passanger side went well. The driver's side was going well until I had to loosen the last 12 star bolt. The tool didn't fit. Nothing I had fit and I can't see what it is. I'm open to any ideas on getting this thing loose and out of there.

My thoughts..also from Maryland,

> Make sure that you have cleaned out the bolt head...carb cleaner works well.

>you may have 12 point on one side and an allen on the other...This was the case on a 914 parts car I had.

>Don't work on it tonight...way too cold...

For the inner CV joints only if all else fails, a good pair of visegrip pliers with sharp teeth works.

If there is bolts or the CV itself stuck on the outer, remove the big nut in the center if the wheel and drive the axle stub inward with a soft drift.

Hi,

Besides 12 star and hex style it could be also Torx (looks like a star with fewer points and there is a striped version of all of these head styles...)
... what ever it is clean it well and try to feel or look what type it is ...
... Vice grip, maybe in combination with the correct tool might help, penetrating oil on the threads would also help. If nothing helps, carefully grind the head off.
