Is the one piece CV boot/flange no longer available for 914-6? I see the one piece CV boot/flange for the 914-4 but not for the -6...or is the early 911 on piece CV boot/flange compatible with 914-6?
Thanks! |

I would think that the 911 parts are compatible, but I see from the parts catalog that the flange and clamp both have 914-specific part numbers. The boot does carry a 901 part number, though, so it should be the same as the early 911 piece. They're not available as a single part for the Six as far as I can tell.
Flange: 914 332 228 01 Clamp: 914 332 335 00 Boot: 901 332 293 10 --DD

Actually, they will all interchange. "Back in the day" when I had a 914-6 (1971 - 1989) I had a CV joint fail sometime around 1973 or '74. I installed a used set of 914-4 axle shafts which were still in the car when I sold it and they had survived a lot of road miles (over 70K) and a lot of SCCA and PCA autocrosses.
The only difference between the -4 and -6 axles shafts was in the spline count on both the axles shafts themselves and the stub axle that goes through and drives the hub. Some of this is lost in the mists of time and too many adult beverages, but as I recall splines on the 914-6 axles and stub axles were finer than those of the -4 (but it could have been the other 'way around). This spline difference is/was the only thing that prevents using readily available VW CV joints as replacements on the -6 axle shaft itself. All I had to do was swap the -6 stub axle onto the -4 axle shaft. I guess the short-answer point is that everything will interchange except the CV joints and the stub axles, and even those mix and match. |
