why do big pore t/4's not last long
i have heard its mainly because of heat. being that the air cooled heads and cylinders just cant cool off because of the inreased ammount of heat generated by a stroked bored carbed camed ported polished setup.
well what if i could cool the engine off enough to keep it running at a constant 180 degrees F. would a big bore kit still last only 10K or so? |

Yes, heat is the main issue, even with a serious oil cooling system the heat on the heads and the fact that the heads and jugs are diferent metals (diferent expansion rates) they can have funky gaps etc.
If you've kept up on the Type4um on the shoptalkforums.com then you'll know that with the new nickies that Shad and Jake are running heat is no longer an issue. They run much cooler and should last a long time...since they are basically the same P & C's that the current 911s are running. Once I get my money squared to drop that large $$$ they cost I'm going for it. So many people do the 6 conversion...I'd like to have an odd engine in an odd little porsche ![]() Nathan

i have never been to the shoptalkforums.
do you have a link to the "new nickies" and what are those? i really want to put a monster type 4 engine in my car, and just go all out to get horsepower, maybe even thinking of very liberal jetting of NOSS NOSS can be good if ya dont overuse it. (that was disclaimer for anti noss people) thanks for the reply |

How big of a bore are you speaking of???
The cast iron kits above 96mm suck, they 96mm kits are okay and will last, the Birals, or nickies are the way to go!

that stuff is just CRAZY what jake and shad are doing with t4's
i went to shop talk forums and saw n/a t4's running over 200hp and still getting 100K out of the engines. thats what i need right there, over 200hp and over 100K life. my little 1.7L carbed engine pails in comparison to these guys's engines. for the longest time i have been saving up for a chevy 350 conversion, now i wont need to do that, i can just order a nickies engine and get most of the chevy hp and still keep it all porshe and get rid of the guesswork and fabrication that goes into a 350 conversion. the stuff you guys are doing for type4 is just crazy. like some of the coolest engeneering i have seen in a long time. i so sick of soccer moms passing me off the line. grey hound busses pass me off the line, everyone does it makes me feel like i am running a n/a diesel vw engine. this ar needs more ommph off the line. the top end is fine, i can cruze at 120mph by myself on deserted roads, but it just takes so long to get that high speed. |
