A stock system has the fuel pump powered by the fuel injection system. It runs the pump for about 1.5 seconds when you turn the key from "off" to "on", then it stops until you crank the starter.
The pump circuit does sometimes get re-wired by people who don't completely understand it. Or by those who convert over to carbs. --DD
