Rocker Panel Rivet Size Question

Can someone tell me what size rivets are used on the rocker panels?

Are they plastic?

Is a hand rivet gun good for installing them?

Thanks.

Been years since I replaced any and therefore forget the size. I used Stainless Steel though since RUSTing was a potential concern. Hand gun worked fine.

The stock ones are black plastic. I have heard of people getting the (more common) white ones and soaking them in ink to turn them black before installation. I do not remember the size.

The factory catalog just calls them "expansion rivet", with a part number of 999.591.550.40 .

I use small screws instead of the rivets. People always say to check behind the rockers for dirt and debris then mount the rockers with a fastener which isn't easily removed.

Can't tell the difference between the screw head and rivet.

The rocker panel rivet expert is Tod. E mail him at Tod914@yahoo.com.
