Tire size and wheel offset ?

I will be putting some new wheels and tires on m '74 with flares and need to know what is a good combo.

What offest and/or spaces is needed to give a good stance to a flared 914? I hope to get some dials at Hershey this year

Thanks

Kerry

If you get 911 or early 944 wheels, 4 X 8" or 2X 7" and 2X 8" they will fit fine. IIRC the backspacing is 4 7/8" If you use 7" on the front you'll need a spacer to fill the flared fender. Later 944 (turbos )have different backspacing on the rears and won't fit.

Though rubber is getting scarce for 15's you can get Toyo proxes t1s as wide as 225/50. 15's are much cheaper than 16's.

I will be running 4 8" X 15 BBS wheels in mine with the Toyos all round.

I see few people want to touch this one. And rightfully so. There is no perfect answer. I have been struggling with the same question all winter. The problem is no two 914's are exactly the same. And all flares are different.
The easy answer is 7's in front and 8's in back. But like DDS said, you will probably need spacers up front. I bought a set of 15" and now I am finding less variety in tire choice in 15". I probably should have gone with 16". It's hard to find a mnf'r that offers 225/50/15's and 205/55/15 to get the same diameter front and rear. Is anyone running 225/50/15's on 4 corners with 7's up front and 8's in rear??
I would love to hear what people with flares are have success with.

Thanks guys..I guess this is a hard question to answer. I will be looking for some wheels at the Hershey swap this year and needed a starting point.

I hope I can go 16's too. 7/8's sound like the nice fit and will have less chance of problems with the flares.

Thanks again guys.

I was told by a local 944 guy that they commonly run 225s on 7" rims.

Hi,
I have 2 914´s flared (916 conv).
I have 15" in both cars, I find a lot of oportunities on ebay, a lot of 911 owners sell this wheels to upgrade to 16", exists better tires in 16".but the wheels are a lot expensive.
The 15" are a lot cheaper.

If the money is not a problem go to 16" and 8" in both rear and front.
In front with 8" is ok, rear you can add a .25" spacer. if you go to 7" front a 1" spacer is ok.
The spacers are not cheap, then spend your money 1 time in a good wheels.
With 7" wheels you always look you car and you think I can have more " wheels.
With 8x15" the perfect tire is the 225/50 and exist in all brands.
But if you want to go to 9" you will need a 245 and is dificult to find, I already find in goodrich, by the way my rear are 8.5".
And looks agresive !
Just for your info, an original 9X15 911 RSR fuchs wheels if you can find some , the price is more than your 914 value. The cheapest that I find cost $3500 the pair.
But 1 pelican member( gruntie ) that lives in England have a pair to sell, but the shipment will not be cheap, but maybe he can give you a good price.
If need to do it again, I will go to 16".
I post this kind of question some time ago, and I have a good answers
Good luck!
Offset and backspace

Wheels and spacers
