Well after 20 years of not having a 914, I get one and the first day out on a drive. . . . . the car dies. I now remember the pain again!
Anyone have any ideas on what happened below???? It was 70 outside today, not too hot. I get the car out for about 8 mins and it dies as I was shiffing. I let the car sit for about 10 minutes, it started back up and went anothter 8 mins before doing the same thing again. I also took it out tonight, it took about 8 min before it started sputuring, I kept it running but it would die as I would have to stop. I pop the clutch to keep it going. A new EFI was installed in the car about 1.5 years ago along with a rebuilt engine.

jon,
Welcome back to the world of teeners! First to suspect would be loss of fuel pressure, either due to leaking lines, injectors, or fuel pump. It may be possibly due to fapor lock, but at 70 degrees I would expect it to take much longer than 8 minutes to cause that. One other consideration is the cylinder head temp sensor. As the engine warms up its resistance increases. If this fails to happen, the ECU maintains air/fuel mixture for lower engine temps. If you have an Ohm meter, visit Brad Anders site (http://members.rennlist.com/pbanders/) for specs/details on correct values at various temps. Keep us posted of your results, Good luck.

Welcome back to the joys of a D-Jet 914!
Could also be a leaky cold start valve dumping too much fuel into the intake. Simply pinch the fuel line and see what happens.

Thanks
Thanks guys!
It seems that one of the fuel injecters was not working and I was only running off of 3 cylinders. I hope this is it. Jon

I had a similar problem some years back when I had a 2.0L w/FI.
The car would die after approx 15 minutes of driving. Sometimes for 2 or 3 sec, sometimes for 15 or 20 sec and then run fine. A new cly head temp sensor cured that. I was repeatedly told that the temp sensor wouldn't cause the motor to die, till I read a thing in "up fixin'" that described my condition exactly. Drove me nutso for a couple months, tho. Everything can go wrong with a 914 (or any Porsche) is discussed somewhere in "up fixin", vols I thru XI. Available from PCA fer bout 18 bucks per vol. For 914s, vols IV thru VIII (that's 4 thru 8 for us non Romans) are the most useful. Each is a collection of tech articles from 2 years of Pano.....Pano was much more tech oriented back in the 70s/80s...or so it seems.
