Question venting clearance adjuster

went to adjust the venting clearance this weekend. left side went fine, even had the steel plug. right side needed to tap loose the stripped aluminum plug, then I tried adjusting the inner piston. the splined adjuster went 15 or so turns in either direction without any noticeable effect, and then it stuck on the end of the allen wrench and came out of the caliper. I cleaned it off and put it back in, but still it seems like it's doing nothing. there was NO wear on the spline, so at least that part isn't stripped. What has to be done to fix this adjuster?

You need to put some pressure on the piston when turning the adjustment screw. Push the piston back into the caliper body and than turn the set screw to move the piston.
Good luck-it can be a pain in the ass.

Striped plugs are normal. All four rear callipers I own had this problem. Very common!!!
The little spline can get stuck on the allen tool - is also normal. The only thing that might keep it from coming out might be the adhesion of the grease.
I don't think anything is striped or defective. I also don't think that your piston has moved that far out that it already requires you to push the piston back in the calliper by hand so that the internal bolt catches the thread of the piston.
When you turn the allen tool you should be able to feel some friction. The kind of friction that a O-ring causes that seals an axel.
I reacently finished rebuilding a pair of my callipers, but I still have difficulties discribing what might happen insite of yours.
I recommend removing the dust boot and the inner brake piston. Check if the little gear at the end of the spline moves the bolt inside the calliper.
