Why does "P" call it "Guards" red?
Anybody know?
Even concoctions along the line of Ron-Meier-BS are welcome as long as it is something I might end up beleiving. Matt 914 expatriot |

The name Gaurds Red was adopted from the reaction of one of the P designers wives...after seeing the color sample she exclaimed that it is the exact color of the Buckinham palace gaurds over coat. It seem that they had just recently returned from holiday where they spent several days touring London. The name stuck...

Thanks Matt, I owe you!
Wasn't it you that created the post on how to seperate the frame from the body on a 914 to get a concours restoration? I was gonna try "It's Guards Red because "Rot" is german for red and the paint "guards" the fine german rot (rust in english). Hey, not bad for 5 am.
