917 1.7l vacuum hose replacements
my hoses in the 914 are old and i would like to replace them. I've seen the diagram (1.7l vacuum hose 1970) and noticed that there are 4 sizes - 13mm, 8mm, 5mm, and 4mm. I need to buy in bulk to replace the hoses - does anyone know the total lenght I need for a 72 1.7l engine? Help.

The best way to do it is to measure the length of the existing hoses. I typically add about 2 or 3 inches to each hose so I can snip the end off when it dries up and cracks.
We sell the hose by the meter if that helps. |

Yeah, I've rarely seen a 914 where the hoses were exactly the same as the diagrams.
Keep in mind that you should also replace the hoses going from the intake runners to the airbox. The hoses for the 1.7L are NLA, but you can use the 1.8L/2.0L hoses if you wrap the ends of the runners with some tape and use hose clamps. |

same problem, different state
Hey Robert - pls let me know what you find out! My problem is worse yet, since some 'creative' type replaced all the hoses with the same 1/2" rubber lines....so I don't even know exactly where the 5mm, 8mm, etc hoses go except by the diagrams! sigh.
If you get an answer, I'd appreciate a head's up as well! good luck to us both td Napa |
