I use the Porterfield R4S. This is a little more of an all around compund for things like DE but I have had tremendous experience with them. They are in my BMW caliper conversion. After initial bedding I have not experienced any noticable fade yet. Although, the night before any event I take the car out on back roads to "scrub" the brakes clean. THey get hot and have a strong smell but they still stop the car. The Super Blue fluid may be helping that too!!
Porterfield was very helpful on the phone. They stock their own stuff as well as everyone else's...ie. HP Plus and such. Good Luck, it will be interesting to see what the dedicated racers put down here. I have heard bad things about HP Black but then another road racing friend said those guys were full of *****. He said "Black's" are made to be run hard. If not hot they will eat rotors but once you get them hot they are very gentle on rotors. Hmm...that shoudl spawn some discussion!!!

I'm sure there will be many different opinions...... but here is mine.
cars over 3000 lbs (944 turbo/etc) should use the pagid pads. cars under 3000 should use the KFP (cool carbon) brand pads.... I've run a dozen sets of KFP pads on my 914 race car over the last 10 years (the same pad and compound used to be sold as cool carbon). The size I use is about 105$ a pair, but I honestly don't know if there is a price difference in the stock size. Good quality pad, good stop, crappy when cold. I've run them back to back (same day/same tires/same track) with a pair of old DS-11 pads and the difference is amazing..... (I ran out of pads one day) brant |
