fuel tank put-back
i just rehabbed my tank, new lines, etc with no problem. But I'm having trouble determining which lines go to which ports under the tank. Any help will do.

If you unscrew the nuts to the ports at the bottom of the tank you should find one with a sock filter and one with a welded tube that goes into the tank. The port with teh sock filter is the outlet port. The port with the tube that points into the tank is the return port. Hope this answers your question!

unfortunately, that does not make sense to me. Neither has a sock filter, maybe was removed at one point by PO. Another way to look at it may be from inside the tank, theres a cylindrical "reservoir" with a hole in the bottom of the tank. Would this be for fuel in or out? and which piece gets screwed into it?
Thanks |

Could this reservoir be acting as a baffled sump to retain the fuel instead of allowing it to flow away from the fuel supply line during cornering? It sounds as if this may be the supply line connection. Not sure, but maybe.

That is exactly correct. The cylindrical baffle is to keep the fuel from sloshing away from the pickup. If only one of the two fittings is inside that baffle, then that fitting is the fuel pickup. It should get connected to the inlet on the pump.
