Question 914 charging problems

I think I already know the answer but before I go through the work to replace the alternator I would like to confirm my findings.

I have gone through the troubleshooting steps from the tech info and these are the results.

When I apply battery to DF the alternator starts putting out 13.8v and remains there when I remove the battery. If I short D+ and DF the Alt. light remains on. Last there is a 6v difference between B+ and D+ (not sure that means much but if I read right the difference should be 0v).

Oh yea I have not replaced the bulb for the Alt. light but that doesn't mean someone else hasn't.

Dont run the engine with the battery disconnected. You risk frying the alternator.

Thanks I jumpered the pos side of the battery to DF. Sometimes my fingers get in the way of my brain I meant to say I applied 12v(battery) to the DF side of the alternator in my first posting.
