Need fog light help please
Hello All. I have seached this forum and read pages of results for my fog light search, but have yet to find the answer. I have a '73 1.7L 914, and one of the fog lights went dead. I am assuming it is the bulb. I took off the chrome grill but am unable to unbolt the light (Get a wrench on it) to access the bulb. Am I correct in that I need to remove the bumper to access the light? (And how do I do that?) I will replace both bulbs when I do this and buy from Pelican, but I want to see the bulb before ordering new (ASAP).
Thank you all for your replies. |

small flat head screw at 6 o'clock on the ring around the light...with the grill off...loosen and the trim ring and lens come off...not easy to get to either but can do it

That's correct. If you do want to take the bumper off, there are two bolts in each front fender. They screw into weld-nuts that are out close to the ends of the bumper. The bolt heads are likely covered with dirt and possibly undercoating or rust-proofing.
But unless something is pretty funny with your front panel and/or bumper, there should be no need to remove the bumper just to change the fog light bulb. --DD

Thank you both for your help. I ended up taking off the front bumper to access the bulbs. And while the front bumper was off. I removed and repainted the lower front valance, repainted the fog light metal trim rings, and the horns. Now everything is back together and looks better than ever. Best regards.

Keith...that's great...glad it turned out well.....it usually happens that way....you start on one thing and end up finding other things you want to do.....that is the fun with these cars...I do it all the time...it's a never ending process but I think that is the fun....good luck with the 914....

excelllent, I find that after jobs like this, the lights are often brighter, after the terminals get all cleaned up.
