August 2002 copy...someone found an extremely rare yellow 914. The engine and tranny are built the opposite of the normal 914. Also, the fuel tank is swapped around from side to side. Then again, it could just be that they flipped the negatives over and that is why Bosch is spelled backwards!!!!
It took me a few minutes to figure it out! ![]() ![]()

Saw that. I couldn't help but appreciate that he spent so much time restoring it , then left the luggage rack on. Something about visually breaking up the flat rear design? Other than that, beautiful restoration.

Agreed about that rack - weird stuff.
Does anyone know if there is a list of true dealer installed options? Five or so years ago at our local concour a guy was trying to justify those rubber "rub" strips that are mounted to the doors and fenders (in riveted on aluminum tracks!) as a "rare dealer option" (he must have been from Marietta Georgia). I think they gave him a ribbon just to get him to be quiet. I would really like to know what was truely offered by the dealers as accessories. Anyone? DD? Scott S in (burning) Colo. ![]()

rubber strips
My 75 2.0 also "had" the rubber strips on the side. Thank God they were only glued on. But Im
sure they were put on around when the car was new. Dealer option? who knows. Maybe talk to some1 like Otto or Brad Mauyer who worked on these cars when they were new. Would be interesting to see on what dealers offered what options. |

No way were they ever dealer options. I had a friend who had a small business installing those rubber stripping on the sides of cars. He would get called to do so many cars at the dealer today then so many at another dealer. Hmmm....guess what the American cars started coming with the stuff installed so his business went away....

I don't think there was any official list of dealer-installed equipment. Those items were whatever the dealer thought they could sell to the local customers that made money for them. Pinstriping, side protection strips, radios, luggage racks, etc., etc., etc.
The list presumably varied from dealer to dealer. There was a company that made the luggage rack, plus bumper overriders, plus a center armrest. I forget the name offhand... but someone posted some scans of the brochure a while back. --DD
