Vintage Race Weekend @ Ca Speedway - Fontana

As noted in the post about oil cooling, there is a HSR West sanctioned race at the CA Speedway in Fontana CA on June 20, 21, 22, 23! That's right FOUR (4) days of Can-Am, GTU-GTP, Porsche 2l, old F1, Formula Vees/Fords and all the old vintage race cars like Triumphs, Alpha Romeos, etc. I plan to bring the 914-4 to tackle the 6's again since there are only a couple of us and we actually hold our own although the longer straights may hurt us some. The pits will be open so you can check out real 917s, 962s, McClarens and of course mine! Seriously it should be a blast so come on out!

John, what did the problem with your motor at the Festival of Speed turn out to be? Hopefully it was just a little lean and there was no other damage than to the spark plugs.

Just curious!

Hi Dave, we ended with the ground electrodes burned off 3 of 4 spark plugs. Probably because they could not handle the high voltage of the MSD box and coil? The color was right on as was the mixture so we are going to a non extended tip, surface gap plug and that should cure the problem. We also found two of the intakes (48mm) were bent so I had the heads pulled and checked to make sure all was well and it is going back together by this weekend. I think my daughter over revved at the chicane and that's what did it? Hope to see you there as there will be some real hot rods!!!
