Broken rear suspension bolts

This is a cross post from one I posted on STF. But the fact remains that I broke off three of the six bolts that hold the trailing arm the the console. Racer Chris replied over there that, indeed, this is not a good thing. So far I have about six hours in trying to remove the bolts by every means I can think of including soaking with various oils, heat, screw extractors, impact with a BIG hammer and drilling through to possibly retap.

I went ahead and drilled one of the threaded sleaves out to 7/16ths for a through bolt, but that ruined about every drill bit I had including colbalt (about $50 worth). I even bought myself a Father's Day present, a drill bit sharpener. (Good for dressing up dull bits in otherwise good condition, but I toasted mine. It's a little hard pushing the drill motor up with all your strength and trying to squirt oil on the bit with the whole mess raining down on you.) This is the hardest metal I have ever encountered.

Anyway, any ideas? Thanks.

Not sure why the bolts are stuck so tight.
For drilling the bolts, the guy who runs a local nut and bolt house sells drill bits that go through 12.9 steel at an amazing rate. These drill bits are not cobalt, but they work great!... I'll find the mfr and get back to you

Another option is to drill a hole smaller and then use a reverse drill bit.

Hey Zeke, I feel your pain.....

You dulled a colbalt bit ??? I rounded off a good high speed steel bit going after the broken tap. I was thinking of the same father's day gift....

You still have time...

Good Luck!

Why don't they make portable automotive lasers yet? Can't you see it?

"Man I stripped a stud today. Need a laser drill."

"Uh. Do ya want the 5 watt or the 15 watt unit, dude?"

Oh there's a guy here in Long Beach, The Hole Shop, that can do onsite bolt removal, but even his in house services are outrages. All the auto repair shops send their heads to him. He does oil field work and pipeline (valves) as well. I'm not sure how his portable equipment works.

Update: 9 PM- The last of the 3 are drilled out for 7/16th bolts. Titanium bits in steps of 1/16th at 300 rpm is the trick. Expensive trick, just the last one, 29/64ths cost over $20.
