Trailer ramps

Hey, you wanna see a pic of my new trailer ramps ?....sure you do.
Actually just one as we ran out of weld wire yesterday.
This DIY stuff isn't all it's cracked up to be.
Mostly, it's a PITA

I just made a set similar to yours, but a bit longer, 10 feet to be exact so I can run the race car on without having to remove the front bumper/spliter assy. I also used what's called "fireman's deck tread" so the wheels won't slip. That's why I had to get a 220 volt 175 amp mig welder, nearly burned up the little 100 volt model! I slide them under the car on either side of the engine and it sure makes loading/unloading easy! Nice job.

According to my calcumulations the front air dam will clear by 1/2 inch and the middle of the wheelbase to the high point of the "hump" will clear by 1/4 in.....assuming there is no give in the trailer springs (I'm actually guessing bout an inch of compression...that helps).
They are 8 feet long.

I'm going to install an electric winch on the trailer with a remote
controller. Saw this set-up a couple weeks ago and said to my self..."Self, if I wuz you, which I am, I'd do one just like that".
No traction probs here, just bring money

Hey JP are you gonna bring her on the trailer to Beavercreek this weekend. I wanna check your conversion out. If I don't have mine going I think I'm gonna trailer it up just so I can run my problems by everyone there. Hopefully I can get it figured before though. See you this weekend

Since we're on the subject of trailers....pretty tricky, ain't I......
I could use some input on tie downs.

I wuz thinkin' about soft straps around the suspension and some of those rachet type tightener thingys.....don't wanna get too technical here.

Any good pics?...descripitions?

When I bought my trailer I got some of the LARGE ratchet tiedowns and I bought straps I loop around the A-arms in front and over the axles in the back. The straps are the commercial type which is probably overkill, but if one should break the other will hold the car. I keep them out of the sun too. I am thinking of making some of the lug nut loop attachments in the near future. There will not be any races in the next couple of months (too hot) so I'll have some time.

I use 3/8" turnbuckels and chains with large hooks to attach to the car instead of the rachet type with straps. I found the hooks are quicker and easier to install. Turnbuckels can be tightened with an open end wrench so there is no slack in the chain.

There was a question of a winch and I bought one and it has been very handy over the years. I got one for $99 from Harbor Freight that is removable and can be stored in my trailer box. I ran a wire from the batt with a 40 amp fuse to the rear with a plug and plug the winch and also the electric trailer jack into it which is very handy. The winch sure beats trying to get a dozen of your "friends" to push a car on the trailer if it breaks! Good luck
