What does this bolt do?
Ok, while playing in my trunk I was wondering what the bolt about mid-way back and slightly to the driver's side of the rear trunk was for (there is a hole in the carpet and underpad for it). I thought it might be an alternate location for the spare tire to be mounted. Does anyone know if this bolt is used for anything? Thanks a bunch!

 It is an alternate place to mount the spare tire.

Good, I was planning on mounting my tire back there but didn't want to remove the bolt and be driving down the street and have something fall off the car. I've heard horror stories and didn't want to create my own

I dont think mounting the spare tire in the back will be good for the weight distribution of the car unless you put something realy heavy in the front.

When you go to the track, 1 race tire in the front trunk, 1 in the rear trunk, 2 on the luggage rack
Worked for me last summer when I went to VIR.

Putting the spare in the rear trunk is a necessity with my wife's luggage
 I've also mounted an inflatable mini spare (ala 911) on my spare wheel to make even more room for her luggage
