				Solid Motor mounts

im just curious. I want to put solid engine mounts on my 914. its a side shift setup. If i put the tail shift engine braket on the the engine.. would it be the right lenth to just put a bolt though the crossbar without any sort of spacer between the bar and the engine?

I don't think it would clear. A number of years ago, I made some aluminum blocks that were the same height as the rubber mounts and bolted the engine to the bar. Let's just say, about 300-500 miles later, I replaced them with the rubber mounts. Everything, and I mean everything will rattle loose. Like an old Harley Davidson..... If your using it for a track event, the solid mounts are great. But for street use, it's another issue.

				made some trans mounts

Just couldn't see replacing the trans mounts so I got a piece of aluminum flat stock 1/2 " thick about 4"x6" and a piece of Aluminum pipe 2 1/2" thick 3" dia. welded the two together. Drilled hole in center for big bolt and hole in plate to mount to body. I cut thick rubber sheet to fit in hole of pipe. When I put this thing together it was so solid I smiled for miles. With the rubber inside preventing metal to metal contact I didn't hear any more noise than usual. That tranny stays put now.
