Engine Compartment Seals
I'm banned from going out to the garage today...and I'm the type of person who cannot rest until I know the answer.
How do you remove those three engine compartment seals, that are attached to the engine shelf? I know stupid question and I deserve to be stoned for this one. Do you just start at one end of the seal and pull down from under the car to remove? Or do you pull up from the engine compartment? |

If the engine tin is out of the way just pull to get it started either way, then it comes out. If the tin is still on pull up then you don't have to be underneath. Try to get a small screwdriver to start it out of the track too.

With my motor out I can see that my seals are torn and need replacement. No time like the present. I don't see that PP has them listed, Glen told me that tweeks had them, but I just cant seem to find em. Anyone know how to track them down and what they cost?

if you think taking them out is fun, wait until you go to put new ones back in. on reassem clean the channel out good and squirt a little liquid dish soap on the edge of the seal that goes inside.

I installed a set while the engine was in once. No fun at all. It would have almost been worth it to drop the engine first.

Well, I did get the one side out. Man that was tough. I was expecting that seal to be just pushed on, kind of like the rear trunk seal or something.
Thanks for the uplifting comment Gerald! ![]() |

Naah. There's a sort of C-shaped channel that it fits into. Well, if the left side of the C were flat, it would be. To get the old seal out, you poke at it with a screwdriver to pop part of it out of the top or the bottom of the C. Then just slide your screwdriver along between the popped-out part and the channel.
To install, you push the lower part of the seal into the bottom half of the C, then use your screwdriver to poke the top part into the top half of the C. I can think of many other things I'd rather do than try this job with the engine in the car, though... The rear seal is different, and I don't remember how it is held in. The seals are available from Pelican; that is where I got mine from. --DD
