engine drop 911 vs 914-6

I have owned several 911 and have done many engine drops on the 911 to the point where I can sleep walk through them. How different is it to drop a 914-6 engine, and are there any very quirky things to watch for ?

Engine and trans come out together! Thats about it!

It can be done in less than two hours.

Much easier, to me, on a 914 than a 911.

Watch out for: The transmission ground strap, which bolts to the trunk floor. Getting the car up in the air high enough to slide everything out. The CV joints getting hung up on the starter, engine tin, etc.

914 straight down , pretty much.

Take off the carbs and alternator and drop it on the floor. Roll the car forward. Done.

This is a pretty good writeup, it's for a /4 but the basics are exactly the same:

The sheetmetal on the sides of the engine (called the "tin" ) can hang up on the nuts for the inboard trailing arm mounts so watch that. It's easier than a 911.
