Front hubs for vented rotors

Alright guys, my first big 914 question-

We're prepping this car for endurance racing, and we want vented rotors up front. Now I know some people go 911 front spindles and brakes, but we're looking to do it cheaper and be a bit more creative. We're wanting to do a 4-lug bolt pattern, so is there any other hub out there that works on the 914 spindle that can have a non-integral, vented rotor? Something from a BMW maybe? I've seen ads for race cars for sale on here that mention an 'aluminum front hub' but never specify where that comes from.

While I know the stock brakes, when well prepared, can haul the car down just fine... we need something that can do that for 24 hours without fading or needing to change pads. So thicker pads kept colder is our goal, and while it isn't hard to adapt any number of calipers to the spindle, fitting up vented rotors seems tougher.

Thanks gents.

You can check the other 914 sites to see if anyone still has the hubs that Brad had made back in 2005. I had the first set that were put on a 914 vintage race car and they worked great.

I looked up threads on those hubs Brad made. I'm not quite to the point of making my own hubs, although that is a possibility (we have the experience & the equipment).

I'm surprised there isn't another 4-lug hub out there that works on this spindle?

I would venture to say the dimensions would have to be exact for things such as the inner/outer bearing areas, the offset for the rotor to bolt to so the M calipers could bolt on correctly and be centered over the rotor and finally the correct dimension so the bearing cap will stay on. I don't think the originals had any sort of heat treatment and if I remember they were made from 6061T6 billets by a company that did runs of small numbers of items. The combo of the 911 vented rotors, M calipers, 4 bolt Centerline wheels and Goodyear 15 inch slicks were pretty much the lightest setup to be had. There are many custom setups that use 911 front suspensions and rear brakes off the early 930 turbos and they are lots of $$$$$ to setup.

I think you are going to spend money either way. I would dare to say that any 4 lug vented solution would cost more than a Carrera front end transplant. I would suggest to call Wilwood but ultimately cost more than donor parts from a 911.

Good Luck!

check out the VW sites - those guys do discs & big brakes on Bugs, so there may be substantial interchange options
