distributor repair
I am rebuilding the distributor on my 2.0 because the wire connecting the two plates is coming- from-together and I am unable to repair it. I need to solder a new one in its place but I am having a hard time finding wire to replace it with. No one (at lease where I live...think Mayberry) carries wire anything close to what I need. I tried to use some wire that I have around the garage but it is too stiff. Would anyone have a line on such wire? Or what to use in its place? Thanks!

Do a web search for "flat copper braid" and that will show all sorts of wire sellers. The problem might be in finding a method to solder the wire to the plates since they are probably very oil soaked and will have to be cleaned very well.

By the time the ground braid breaks, the points plates are usually pretty worn. I think the injected VW Type III points plates work in our distributors, but I am not completely certain of that.

Go to an electronics store and buy some solder wick. They make all sorts of widths. Radio Shack may even have some.
