Fuel Pump and Wheels
Is the fuel pump 0580463009 any good to me as a spare for my 1972 1.7l motor? I can't seem to find the part number anywhere. It was found in the proverbial "parts box" that came with my car.....
Also, is it true that tire shops will NOT mount and balance tires on old steel 4 bolt VW rims? (that's what I have for now on my 914) |

I don't know about the fuel pump, but I wouldn't be surprised if it could be adapted. Many or most FI pumps will put out enough pressure to run the D-jet on a 1.7, and enough volume.
If you find a tire shop that won't mount tires onto old VW rims just because they're old VW rims, you need to find a new tire shop. If there are specific reasons (e.g., "these are rusted enough to be weak", or "195s on these tires won't fit your car"), remember them and take your car to them every time you need tires. --DD

no they will and can mount the small hole 4 bolt rim. Now the rims used on 1967 and older bugs is a different story. Very few people still have the adapter to mount the old style five lug wheels.
Old is Old in this case 1968 is now old to most shops...

check with some of the internet parts suppliers to find out what car the pump is for. some sites will let you search by part number and when/if the part comes up it may tell what car(s) the pump fits. try busdepot.com and eurowebparts.com (sorry PP) then compare fuel systems
