What is it?

I'm a new 914-6 owner, hoping to learn what is the function of the items shown in the photos...

This one is some kind of vent, but what is the function?

This hose comes from under the back of the car and plugs into the bottom of the air box. A transmission vent?

Is this an original Six, or a conversion? (If the VIN starts with "914", it's an original Six. If it starts with "47", it's a conversion.)

I don't know what the fitting you show in the first picture is. Perhaps it supplies slightly-pressurized air for the charcoal canister system?

The hose in the second pic may also be related to that system.

In a four-cylinder car, air goes from the fan shroud to the charcoal canister (up through mid-74, that's on top of the gas tank, in later cars it is in the engine bay) and then air goes from there to the air cleaner. Another smaller hose goes from the expansion tank on top of the fuel tank to the small fitting on the canister.

Well the fitting in the 1st picture is not factory as they never did that as far as I know. If the end of the fabric covered hose, that is covered by your arrow plugs into it then it is an air supply. You need to find where the other end goes since "under the back of the car" is a bit vague? If it goes to the transmission that would put the transmission under pressure which is not good as it should vent to atmosphere.

I suppose you could ask the previous owner?

I'm an original owner of a "70" 914-6. I do not have that fitting on the fan shroud and I don't and never did have that little hose running over the top of the shroud above the oil cooler.

With the arrow right over the end of the hose, I can't really see where it goes. I looks as though might be a green wire that might be extending out of the hose. I think that is for the cold start solenoid/valve. I took that off soon after I got it because it would drown the carbs with gas.

The engine is an original 6 block.
The nipple on the fiberglass fan shroud is for a vent hose that extends from the charcoal
canister on top of the gas tank. Two tubes extend fron the gas tank along the drivers rocker panel to the engine compartment.
My early 6 (1095) does not have that feature. My later car (2567, a California car by the way, has it).
The small hose on the engine goes from the bottom rear of the air filter housing to a metal drip tube attached to the bellhousing. This tube is often missing so the hose is problably just stuck through the hole in the left rear tin.

The small hose is a drain and is attached to the bottom rear of the air filter housing.
It extends to a metal drain tube
