Porsche 914 engine serial numbers

Hey guys...I have a 1974 914 2.0. It's been in my family ever since my uncle purchased the car brand new. When I was a kid, I vaguely remember a major engine problem when the motor may or may not have been replaced. I'm trying to figure it out. I researched the engine serial numbers for a 1974 2.0 and found that the serial number should be GA 0006766 - GA 0015021. What I can't figure out is my serial number is GA 0118291. Obviously it doesn't fit in the range. Anybody have any ideas? I ordered a COA from Porsche but that information won't come for 4 weeks at least. Any help is appreciated

Wait for the COA, its the only place the original engine SN will be indicated for your car. Obviously your engine was replaced.

GA 0118291 is not a valid # I would think. They would never have made one hundred thousand 2.0 engines for the 914 let alone in the GA series. Can you post a photo of it please.
