Who re-builds the best 3.0

Wayne and "clan" are about to hit the printers with his new book on how to rebuild your 911 engine.

I would like to know who everybody thinks is the best candidate for building a 3.0 engine. Race or street it doesnt matter.

I hear claims all the time of 325hp from race engines and 250hp from serious street injected engines.

What's your take ?

B

Ha ha..

I know how to do it (325hp) I just want to know who else KNOWS how to do it..lol

Ever wonder why I post to the racing lists looking for early 3.0 Turbo engines ??

Short stroke early conter weighted cranks fit in the early 3.0 turbo case. Can you say RPM ?? and lots of flow around the large bore pistons.

Brad, I'd have to vote for Andial. They've built a lot of winning race egines. That isn't to say others can't, but Andial's record speaks for itself.

Andial= A rnold, Dieter and Alwin.

Brad:

You're talkin a 66 mm stroke and, what, 98/100mm bore?
Gives new meaning to oversquare. I can see it in a race motor that you're spinning to 8k, but a street motor?

BTW, the euro Carrera, 3.0, in 76 & 77 share that case with the turbo and use the 6 bolt flywheel crank (The dizzy turns the right direction also, me thinks.....if you're using one)....but you knew that, eh?

If you want me to build you one, send a whole pee pot fulla' money. I'll sub it out to Steve Weiner (after pocketing my 10%).

I see them every weekend we are at the track. Rob does good work and gets good money for it.

Van's Yellow Turbo car turned out awesome (Zanni one)

Rob builds a nice 3.2, but I dont know about 3.0's

OK...how much are we talking (roughly) to put together a competitive, reliable, 250-350hp race motor (2.7-3.2 liter)?Complete drop-in with induction, ignition, exhaust etc.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it

Your question is kinda' open ended. The 100hp difference could easily cost $100 per hp (IMO).

The 3.0L 250hp (that's "real", race reliable hp, not someones pipe dream ) would prolly be cheapest and most reliable. WAG, DIY, $10K.

A 2.7L (or 2.8/9) at close to 350hp could easily cost twice as much, if not more, and probably need multiple rebuilds every season.

You know all this......what do you really want?
You're sounding a bit like my wife. She's never heard of the word "budget", either.

Sammy is kinda' "funny", isn't he.

Chris figure on spending 18-20K for a 3.2l 345hp engine.

The hot ticket is the Matt Lawrence 3.4 360hp engine.

This is turnkey with Motec injection/ignition/exhaust

Reliable and fun 9k RPM engines.

We built mild 3.0's that dyno at 255hp, run on pump gas with Electromotive/Woods cams/Euro P+C's for around 14k.

I can't afford to play at the >3.0 Motec $20-30K kind of level, but a moderate 3.0 or 3.2 build with TEC-III or PMO's might be doable. (After I remodel the bathroom, right Sammy???)

First i need to get the chassis/suspension, and my driving, developed quite a bit further. Tons more power is about the last thing I need at the moment, but it's still fun to fire up the crack pipe and dream once in a while.

BTW who's Matt Lawrence?

Let's hope for a killer year-end bonus...

Yep.. pass the pipe over here. I know ther LA crack is better than the Oakland crack..lol

Matt is pretty popular in the northwest. He is in Reno and making a name for himself by building some serious road race 911's and some serious engines.

You hooked up with Roger Sheridan yet ?? He is in Agoura Hills right off of 101.

I have a 3.2 on the stand that Woods dyno'd for us at 255hp using 46 Webers and TECII crank triggered ignition. Nothing really special. Just a good reliable engine.
