I'm looking for a reliable source to have one (maybe two) ECUs rebuilt for my 74 - 2.0L engines. Any ideas on a source (PP?) where this can be done?
Also, I would prefer someone that will warranty their work. TIA,

The rebuilder (Bret instruments) deals only through distributors (e.g. Performance). You send them a core, they send you a rebuilt ECU. AFAIK, Bret doesn't work directly with end customers.
Have you tested your ECU's with the VW1218 tester that PP rents, or do you have some other reason you think they're defective? I may be able to help in debugging the problem and suggesting a repair. |

Brad,
I sent you an email a couple of months ago or longer that outlined the problems with this particular ECU. For example the impedence for pins 3-6 were way up at 3500 instead of the required <3.0. This caused the injectors to randomly stick open - flooding the engine. I also swapped out the ECU from my other 914 as a test and it solved the problem. When I checked its values they were within spec. So I was looking to get that one rebuilt, and I'm in the process of re-evaluating my working one as I'm having some weird idle and low-to-mid RPM transition problems. It running slightly lean at idle, and as RPM move up to 2000+ the CO levels fall off. Went through most of your list, but still have a couple of minor things to check (voltage from new (used) alternator - mine froze up, and the exhaust connection for leaks. Any additional ideas? TIA,
