Special Addition
How do I know if my '74 2.0 is a special edition? The original paint was black, has the special edition front spoiler, Mahle wheels, roof piller doesn't have the vinyl or aluminum trim.

I think SEs should also have sway bars and center console (which were standard on '73 2.0s but not '74s). Maybe you could scratch the paint a lttle on the rockers, spoiler, and/or rear valance to see if there is yellow or something underneath. Thats all I can think of right now.

You should pickup the Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche NA. That will tell you, based on your VIN, exactly how the car was shipped from the factory, including engine serial numbers, etc.

The paint code for a 1974 Limited Edition Bumblebee (black with yellow trim) is U1V9. However, from what I have seen, it is likely that your car may just have the base color of L04I on the Karmann tag.
I agree with James, your best bet would be to get a Certificate of Authenticity from PCNA. If your car was delivered as a LE, the certificate will state LIMITED EDITION "CAN AM". |
