Feedback on PartsWerks of Chicago
Ever have any good or bad dealings with Jay at PartsWerks of Chicago? Seems that these folks were trained by AA.
I got a bad right rocker panel in August. It was manufactured incorrectly and returned. Jay stated that it should not have shipped. Still waiting.... I'm out $25.00 in additional freight for the return... Keeps telling me that it will be picked up on Wednesday.... Still waiting. Called to tell me that it was shipped 10 days ago... Still waiting. retro |

On 11/6/01 I bought a rebuilt trans axle from them, included in the price was a $200.00 core charge. THe trans axle was returned to them on 12/17/01. I have called once a week since that date about the return of my core charge[ every time I have talked to Jay] the story changes weekly as to reason for my not haveing it by now. Yesterday he looked up my file and said" Yes , I see it here I will get on this to day" . I will repost on this thread " WHEN " Jay returns my core charge. p.s. Yes I reurned a good rebuildable core to them. DAVE

Part Werks not as bad as AA but close.... They are a real PITA to deal with Very Very Very Slow..... Keep jumping on Jay Everyday or at least every other day so he does not forget you. Make his life miserable and he will respond. The squeakey wheel gets the oil..... This SOP for them
Good Luck

I have used them for parts a few times and have had no problems other than they are very s l o w in delivery. Much better than AA in terms of service.
Just my .02 Geoff

Why use anyone besides PP?
I just had my first mix up with PP. I spoke with Thomas and instead of him trying to point the finger at me (typical AA), UPS, or whomever. It was "sorry for the mix up" and "Yes sir, we'll get it out priority mail right way" If you're working you are going to make mistakes. It's the people who correct them you learn you can count on. PP rocks! |

I only used them once and that was enough....
It was a used tail for my 911 something that PP does not carry.

Well , my rocker arrived today, just 165 days after ordering it. Now I am still owed a credit for my freight back to them, so I need to do this just one more time...
Feedback on ebay has been positive for auction items. But thanks for your feedback. Joe |

Living in Chicago, I've used Part Werks a few times. All in all, I'd rate them a B-. Jay's new parts operation is so-so, but he's got a couple of buildings worth of salvaged Porsche parts. It seems like about 20% of the salvaged parts are 914 parts, and he'll let you take your time going through stuff at your own pace. His prices on the used items seemed very fair to me.
I'm really not surprised by some of the experiences posted here. Jay is definitely a "free spirit". In my dealings with him, he has been honest, but slow. Howard

PP is out of the used parts biz....so if you need used parts, try Bontempi at Hi Performance House in the bay area. www.all914.com currently the website is down, but will be back up soon.

Same symptoms
Aug. 6th, Ordered a strut brace...has to come from Calif. Aug 13th "Your not in the computer yet. It hasn't arrived here yet" Me: Why didn't you have it drop shipped direct?
"I'll check on it and call you back" No call back. Again 2-3 via Ebay OK...direct sales, not impressed. Ted 86 Carrera Targa |

Me2
I won an eBay auction from them for an accelerator cable, supposedly found new in the trunk of a car...they send a very obviously used, broken one. Only after several phone calls and no response to 3 emails and me agreeing to send back the broken one at my expense, did they send a new one.
Interesting enough, they ran the same eBay ad the following week with the same tag line of having found it new in the trunk of a car. Not a pleasant experience and they seemed very indifferent upon complaining.... I wouldn't deal with them again. In other words, Pelican remains the benchmark. Mike

Won a 911 master cylinder from them off of ebay. "Rebuildable, great shape" BS actually, total BS! The piston was ceased in the housing that was OBVIOUSLY pitted and rotted away. Well I now have a core for my troubles. I will never deal with them again. Just my .02

I'll throw in my buck seventy five (inflation ya know!):
I bought a set of 15x6 5 lug fuchs from them on evil bay. To me a set is enought for the car...I was sold a "Pair". $350 for a set is a good deal. $350 for 2 used Fuchs, poorly painted with some serious curb damage, was no deal. Not as bad as AA, but not planning on doing business again. James

Easy there MikeZ,
I dont push the site or the fact that we are LARGER than AA. Seriously, we cant keep up with the phones and the local demands. I appreciate the effort. I'll tell the list now, that we are slow to ship. When you have 3 stories and 45K sq. feet of new and used parts, it can take a day or so to get the part in a box. The service part of the business (27 years now) is very busy. B |
