Moody L-Jet!

I know I have seen a post on this very issue but I can't seem to find it.

Why is it that my '75 L-Jet runs GGRREEAAT when I start off cold then when I stop at the store and re-start it while it's still warm the darn thing will barely idle and will frequently stall if I don't goose it a bit? If I drive it long enough it snaps out of it, but never returns to full 800 RPM idle condition until I let it cool off.

TIA for the help,

BTDT on a 1.8 L-jet

Air leaks... L-jet is real sensitive to them....

Go through the intake from after the air flow meter to the injectors:

Air tube between flow meter and throttle... seal up the connections, tape or RTV.

Throttle body seal...new seal or a little RTV

Air Box... those sheet metal seams that look air tight... coat em with RTV.

Air Box to runner seal... check em out. 1.7L are NLA but 1.8L are still available I believe.

Gasket to intake, replace

injector seals, replace

If that doesn't work or you want to cheat from the start.

Install a 200 - 800 ohm resistor in series with the Head Temp sensor... that will richen you up to compensate for uncorrected air leaks.

I have a dash mounted switch were I can dial in 600, 1200 or 1800 ohms in series with the CHT... used to use it before I corrected all the air leaks.... engine purrs and idels perfect now... switch is useless now except for really hot days when some times I richen the mixture up just to run the engine cooler.

Thanks All,

Dave I was looking for a "BTDT". I am about to replace my battery tray (none underneath, just the tray thank God!) so that's perfect timing to check all that stuff, plus replace the hoses and fuel lines.
