I dont really want to dick with carb's,.. but I guess I can't get much power out of a F.I. system. with a bigger cam and pistons ETC,.. or is there a way to use F.I. system bigger injectors maybe,..???

I dont want to,..I bought a car that is missing the system,...I would rather have the FI,..But how much modding can I do before I have to go to carbs,..I guess...because I do want more power out of the engine that is now in boxes,..and I need to build it So I thought,a perfect time to get more power..!!!!!

For carbs, go with Webers as they seem to be the best. I would not get used ones as they are generally worn out, especially at the shafts/body area and they then leak air and become impossible to tune. Additionally, they have to be driven several times a week or goop will form in the float bowls and jets and then it will not run well if at all. You can also go with an after market FI system and in the long run they are better than the carbs or original system as they are much more flexible.

An original unit can be modified and tuned so you can run it up to about 2.2L and with a wilder cam as there is a shop in the LA area that used to do this. Uses a reprogrammed brain, larger injectors, higher capacity fuel pump, larger fuel lines and a bored out throttle body but it cost $$$$$$$. I forget their name, sorry.

The efi cam tends to restrict the carb change over as it is very mild, the Dellorto's have proved to be better for tuning but there is no way you will reach the economy and reliablility of the injection IF it well maintained, thems the facts

The Dellorto's offer better tuning over the Webers and are a better newer design but parts can be harder to get , they are around on the UK /Euro sites, most say go for the big ones but the truth is you will lose bottom end power due to larger vent size, fuel economy will suffer also.
People appear to fit the 44's but the 40's with a 34mm vent will give you a nice power curve with the right jets.....most people over carb and blame the carb or the supplier???.
It not just about the right carbs you need a good pump and holley low pressure regulator and the right distributor to get the best performance.
There are lots of info around about mods to improve the stock efi system for more power and it has been done but there are limits,Dave from Pelican will help if he's reading this.
If you you have your stock system I would stick with it personally.

Stock cam=stock FI, you can dick with it a bit, headers give the most bang for the buck, but never expect more than 110HP and that's doing all the tricks.

Big cam you have to go carb or programmable FI.
40mm for the smaller engine sizes, over 2.2 use the 44's

Have you considered going to an aftermarket EFI system? There are folks that have successfully fitted them, and they should be much more efficient than carbs with today's technology. Today's fuels also don't seem to be very friendly to carbs.

I love the Webers on my 914-6s, but also appreciate the instant starts and great performance of the Motronic system on my 911 Carrera.
