My master cylinder is bad and I am weighing my options for a new one. Most people would say to never rebuild an MC because your life depends on it but it is hard for me to justify the $250+ for a new one. I did find

Going to 23 from a 17 is a huge step up that you might not like. That will be much more surface area you're working with (46%).
I have a Üro 19mm master cylinder in my 912E and it's been doing fine for the last 7 months. If it starts leaking anytime soon I'll replace it with a Ate but so far so good. It was $68 with shipping. |

Use the 19mm. You will not like the 23mm with stock calipers.

You will have to push almost one and a half times as hard on the pedal to get the same braking force you get with the 19mm M/C. Almost twice as hard as if you were using the stock 17mm M/C.
At least the pedal will feel harder... The "Uro" brand seems to be somewhat hit-or-miss for quality. I personally don't think brakes are worth cheaping out on. --DD
