Red face Fuel Pump works for 10 seconds

I have a 1975 2.0 that i converted to carbs. I put a brand new fuel pump, similar to this one. The pump will run fine and push a nice flow of fuel for about 10 seconds. Then the fuel pump will still be audibly running but it will not push any fuel through. The pump is located in the original front trunk area of the car.

Thanks,
Levi

You could have a clogged filter sock inside the gas tank. Take the fuel level sender out and shine a flashlight down there.

Currently I don't have the fuel tank in the car. I have a hose from the fuel pump to a clear plastic jug with fuel in it. It's clear so that I can be sure the hose is submerged in fuel. Good idea though, Thanks for the quick reply

Ok, I'll ask again. what kind of carbs? 34's? 40's? single or dual barrel?

Did you double check that you're actually getting fuel to the carbs?

Could the float bowls be full at that point, and the floats then don't let any more fuel in?

thats one of the old "clackety" pumps.

it could have something to do with your setup. normally the gas tank is above the FP pushing fuel into it. if you have the tank below, it may not pull or lift the fuel very well, plus, when the float bowls fill, that may make it worse.

fixed!

The carbs are single barrel 34.

Thanks for the help I have managed to sort it out. I replaced the an in-line fuel filter and went through all the connections to make sure there were no kinks or blockage. I think what happened was the fuel filter I was using was made of such cheap plastic that the hose clamp compressed the input hole so that fuel couldn't get through.
