Location of vacuum distributer hose on '74 914 2.0?
I've recently acquired a '74 2.0 with original FI. The vacuum hose for the distributor retard is present and connected but not the advance hose. For the life of me, (and after looking at many out-of-focus pictures online, I cannot find another vacuum connection on the throttle body that would produce *above butterfly* vacuum.
What am I missing here? Is it on the air cleaner? ![]() Here are a couple photos of mine with air cleaner removed, retard line is clearly visible: ![]() ![]()

Thats the factory late-1974 set-up. For a 1-port throttle body, the advance is not connected.

OK, thanks.
![]() I feel sort of deprived, though. And it just doesn't seem "Porsche-like" to have a working vacuum advance installed with a nipple and nothing connected to it. Is it the same distributor as a '73 or early '74 2.0? Could I realize a small performance gain by making advance operable somehow? ![]() Thanks a lot for the knowledge.

The '73 and early '74 2.0 have the 2-port throttle body...the advance is hooked up with that style.

The dizzy's are different PN's, not sure what their advance curves look like.

Thanks, what a fantastic page. I'm impressed that someone made the effort to aggregate all of that and had the skill to make it a legible document! ![]() It seems to me that if the early and late '74 914 2.0 both have a timing spec of 27 deg. BTDC with vacuum disconnected, then the earlier cars with vac advance simply have slightly more total advance, ie. 27 deg. BTDC + whatever the vac advance adds. Not sure what the emissions advantage was at the time in reducing the total advance? ![]()

Note that the vacuum advance only shows up with the throttle is open a very small amount, when the throttle plate is just off idle.
Some information about when the advance comes in and how much can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20001007043902/http://www.dgi.net/914/tech/distrib.html --DD
