Hi Fella's...I am in the process of having my engine re-built. Just dropped a major wad o' cash at Pelican. Anyways, I ordered a new cylinder head temp sensor because the old one broke. It didnt break at the connection, but right after this long tubular thing that kinda looks like a birthday cake candle. Is this replacable? Or do I just need to replace the sensor as well as the wire that connects it to wherever it goes? Make sense?

Replace the sensor. Given that it broke, it was probably old, and you've just spent a bunch of $$ on your motor - why have a component you doubt?

That candle thing is the resistor on 73 2.0l cars which matches the CHT sensor. If you broke the resistor you will need to get another along with the CHT for a 73 2.0l.

If your CHT is OK, and you only broke the resistor, go to your local Radio Shack and buy a 270 ohm, 1/4 watt resistor. Solder on standard push-on connectors to splice in between the CHT and the wiring harness. Total cost is about $1. If you can find the original Wuhrle part from Porsche, I think they want over $30 for it. See my web page for more details on this ballast resistor.
BTW, make sure you have the 0 280 130 017 CHT, and not the ... 003 or ...012 sensors. The 017 is the only one that is designed to work with the ballast resistor. |
