Torsion Bar

i have a 74 914 2.0. What are the original Torsion bar sizes for the front suspension? Am i correct in thinking they are 18mm (17.something). I have a set of 23mm from my 911 project. Can i swap out the 18s for the 23s? What will i have to do to the back to make up for the change?

Thanks

I don't believe the spline is the same So you would have to swap the whole darn thing from the 911. lower control arms and such.

awesome!

Figures!! My plan B was going to be to swap everything from 911 onto the 914, do a turbo tie rod update..etc...

Anyone done this? is it a straight bolt on swap? or will fabrications need to be made?

The splines are indeed different.

The complete front suspension swaps over from the 911 to the 914. The A-arms and torsion bar adjusters have to match the torsion bars you are using (either 914 spline or 911 spline). The struts themselves can be switched around (use new ball joints of the correct type), as can the steering rack and associated parts.

The rear suspensions are entirely different. Going five-lug in the back requires more work than in the front. Though there are places like PMB Performance that do offer kits that are mostly bolt-on.
