Removing the fender?

Had a little accident the other day and the front drivers fender is destroyed. What would you guys suggest is the best way to remove it? It makes me sick knowing this car has been around all these years and I am the first to damage it. Thanks for the help

sorry to hear about the accident!

if the damage is too bad to be beat out, you have to drill out the spot welds. you need a drill bit the size of the spot welds, (maybe 1/4" or 3/8"),you may want to center punch the welds to get the center. drill them out a little and use a coal chisel to help split the seam. i read, you can buy a special spot weld bit, but some said it drilled too large of a hole for their likeing. but you will be drilling the fender side so that shouldn't matter. then you will have to grind the remainder of the weld off the body.

do a "spot weld" search here and on the 911 board and you will get a lot of good advice.

the spot welds are about 3/4" or less apart so there are plenty of welds. i don't remember where the welds are around the cowl seam.

good luck!!

Thanks Doug, I will look into that and start with the fender on my parts car. I guess it won't be that bad after all.

Doug is right on the money.

We replace front clips and rear clips by drilling the spot welds out. I would recommend the spot weld drill bit. Run down one of your local Snap-on guy's and buy 2 from him. They stock them on the trucks. The bit has a little tiny drill bit that centers on the weld. It works much faster than just using a normal drill bit.

I'm pretty sure he meant "cold" chisel. Just about anywhere. A long thin chisel for metal, not wood.

You might want to pick up an air chisel set. You can get them real cheap if they say "made in China" on them. They should last long enough to get a set of fenders done.
