How much does it cost ??? (see link)
I have noticed a HUGE surge in the number of emails I'm receiving with people questioning how much something... blah blah fill in the blank..
Here is a spread sheet I kept on a time trial/SCCA legal 73 2.0 914. CLICK HERE FOR PRICING GUIDE Notice ... NO labor is on this list. B |

Brad -
I think that you are paying too much [or is it charging too much] for parts. A Bosch Blue Coil that you have listed for 49.95 has a suggested retail price of only 43.85. You can buy one from our friends here at Pelicanpartsexpress for only 24.55. This is but one example. I recognize everyone's right to make a profit. But, as you choose to make things public, you should be prepared for the scrutiny. |

Maybe that's the point. It takes a lot of balls to advertise on other vendor's BBS. So maybe he isn't horning in on Wayne's gig. (Wayne doesn't take to kindly of that. I remember him taking someone to the mat pretty hard for promoting on his board.)
If the above info is correct, Brad is asking you not to buy from him. And if you do, apparently he will turn around and buy it from Pelican at yours and my price, then add shipping, etc. He better buy it from Pelican, as much promoting as he does here. Actually, Wayne posted once that he has checked out how much BBS members do buy from him. So I am thinking Brad buys his share or he'd be long gone. Me, I've puchased about a $1000 this year, which isn't all that much. But, I've bought less than a hundred from others that I could have got from PP. I try to support the host. |

Paul,
why in the world would I post "my prices" on parts to the world ? This is typical markup. You will find that most of those prices are 1-2 dollars under PP prices to the public. Ask around. I make people bring me the parts they want me to use. I dont sell new parts. I build cars. Milt, I have bought ONE thing from PP. That is all. One oil tank for my 914/6 conversion car 3 years ago. I run a shop... my prices are the same wholesale price that PP gets when they buy from one of the wholesale parts vendors. The point of the post was not to compare prices... it was to show people what "typical" builds will run you. B << open for scrutiny |

Ummm.. Zeke,
"He better buy it from Pelican, as much promoting as he does here" When was the last time I said "buy it from me" or I have "this" for sale. The ONLY thing I have ever posted here ..is the fact that we build cages for race cars. If I was BVD (Byron) who never answers a single tech question and NEVER posts anything of any relevance (but runs adds for parts everywhere) then I could see some *****ing going on. I have known Wayne for several years and if there was a complaint..he would let me know personally and quickly. Ask DaveD how he attended 90% of the SoCal events from 99-01. Me. B |

Another issue is that Pelican doesn't carry a lot of the 'race' parts some of us need/want. The "Racing and Performance" section for early 911/914-6 stuff has been "coming soon" for 3 years now. They have expanded the performance & race offerings over time, but compared to the big race shops like Coleman, Pegasus, Smart Racing, Jegs, OG Racing and so forth it's an apples-and-oranges difference in focus & business models.
This doesn't bug me, but it leads me to split up my purchases across a whole list of vendors, based on their particular strength/focus.

How come nobody is interested in this car:
I've seen it on ebay several times now. $9K seems cheap for a 914-6 race car with a rebuilt 2L six and a rebuilt 901. |

Most people dont have 10k to drop on a 914 in one shot. Most of us can afford to dump 1-2k a month into them.
Number one thing against it: Its a race car. Bill Newlin has the fastest 914 race car in the USA (4cyl) and he has dropped the price from 25k to 12k. It wont sell. B |

Hey, I think I know that car! Damn, I didn't think EJ & Susan would ever get rid of it... It was a four-cylinder when I started autoXing with them, then eventually went Six. B may remember a loooong trip up to their place to pick up some parts--and some bales of hay!! ![]() Hayward, huh? Hmm. Could still be them, they might be keeping the car closer to "civilization" to sell it easier... Anyway, if it's the car I think it is, $9K would be a pretty darned good deal!! --DD
