SoCal 914 Prices
I'll be getting transfered to San Diego in October and am interested in buying a new 914. I know the price range is wide, but if someone could throw some numbers at me it would be appriciated.

probably the same as everywhere else in the country, you'll just get something with less rust.

New 914? Just kidding. Usually in my experience you can get them from $1500 (Crap need lotta work) to $5000 (Owner thinks too much of car usually). Many times the higher end is worth it, but in So Cal you can find many restorable cadavers for little cash. Try looking into the autotrader on line, they usualy have the middle to upper value ones listed.

Or, you could just contact Mike Z(ois) for assistance. It's really easy: just think the name, and he'll contact you. Much easier than doing all the looking yourself. He apparently has a fairly good reputation (yep, going to hell for that one), and can find just about anything.

I bought 2 that were in AutoTrader. Both were good deals. the second one was all original and rust free for $3500.
If you can, expand your search to include the SF Bay area. There are many 914's there in good shape and they tend to be more original than the LA area ones.

seems like there are a lot of CA 914's which are solid, good drivers, but none for sale which are truly nice and original. where are the garaged minty weekend drivers that are mostly original with low owners!?

HA!
I live in the SF Bay area and 4 years ago searched for 6 months up here. I ended up flying to LA to get my current 914. I think it depends more on the chance timing of when you are looking and what is available at that time. |

I really lucked out. One email to Rennlist and I found my car. It took 2 months to consumate the deal but the seller wasn't in a hurry. The car was never advertised to the public.
I think I'd only be tempted to trade it for a black car in mint condition. Black was always my favorite color. They seem kind of rare though and finding one in exceptional original condition or one with a really nice repaint seems almost impossible. |

Oh, come on now. . .almost everyone I've talked to who's been looking for a 914 I've told them to contact you. Guess living in Santa Barb has thinned the skin? Hey, we have a "retired" couple back here doing the DEs with Potomac. Say they know you. Give me a few and the aged brain cells will kick in and I'll remember their names. . .
