Porsche internal transmission shift rod differences

quick question. I'm in the middle of modifying a Porsche 914 side shift transmission to a 911 style shift linkage. looking at the factory parts diagrams I have a question about two parts. looking online I'm finding conflicting information. some say that you can just use the tail shift first reverse shift rod, others say I need to swap it with the 914 first reverse shift rod. in the parts diagrams they do have two different part numbers 914.303.141.00 and 901.303.141.02 respectively. my question is whats the difference between the two of them and which one do I honestly need. or will either work. thanks in advance.

Are you putting the side-shift transmission in a rear-engine car? If so, you need to get either the tail-shift shift rods (yes, including the 1st/rev rod) or the 911/912 ones. They are different, and that is for good reasons.

ya its going in a Volkswagen beetle. I know I need to get the other shift rods and the 2nd-3rd shift rod is the same 914 tail shift or 1970- 1971 911 transmission. but the 1st-R shift rods are different between the same transmissions. my main question is what is the difference between them and since I'm going to be using the 911 nose cone do I need to use the 911 shift rod, or will th 914 one work as well. for all the research I have done so far I cant get a straight answer.

EDIT

thanks dave I saw your answer over on the 914world. kinda what I thought just wanted to make sure.

You need the 911 selector shaft. It's way different.

OK, looked it up in the PET. You need the 1/R rod, the 2/3 rod, the selector shaft, and the nose cover ("lid"). You will need a 911/912 speedo angle drive, too, and you'll have to have the differential flipped (unless you're in need of 5 speeds in reverse, 1 forward. I have the cover and one of the rods (not sure which one) and they're for sale. PM me and we can talk.
