Porsche 914 Custom NASCAR StyleInstrumCluster
I laughed when I saw this. They have been selling this for quite some time but I guess they decided to add the word NASCAR to the description to attract us serious race fans. NASCAR & Porsche 914 do not seem to be two I would have put together... SCCA Style Cluster would even sound better.
Oh well, enjoy.

Another good one. "914 Wood and Carbon Fiber Dash Kits...To Spice Up Your Look" It's like a Triumph crashed into a 914... all we need now are "vintage" SCCA dash plaques

Notice the panel depicted and the pics of one installed don't even resemble each other? I guess the "arrangement" of your instruments doesn't matter with NASCAR.
Humm ... I wonder if 9xAuto.com is paying royalties for even USING the name NASCAR? Oh, wait; it's "NASCAR Style." My faux pas ...

I couldn't help but notice . . .
You guys are brutle! Not that I'd want one in my 914, but remember this car is from the 70's. Maybe you don't remember (or are too young to) the days of fake wood trim, chromed plastic trim, rampant replacement of metal with plastic, even fake metalic (anodized) plastic - gag me! But hey, I'm sure there's someone out there who would just love their dash covered with fake wood paneling. Not to mention the racers out there who want every gauge available and a convenient place to put them. Just my $.02

I actually like the look of the one pictured in a 914...
![]() I looked at the price of the gauges and of the plate and it's less than having the gauges restored and purchasing a triple combo gauges from North Hollywood Speedo or Palo Alto Speedo. Regards, Karl

And how long would it take you to duplicate using a piece of sheet aluminum, a pair of tin snips (or better, a bandsaw or jigsaw), and a hole saw?

If you use sheet aluminum it wouldn't take to long to do. I used stainless steel and it was hard as a rock. I did most of the cutting with a dremel. It was slow and I used a bunch of blades. Now that I have the whole dash done I'm glad I did it.

I have owned my share of 70's sports cars with wood & aluminum bits (some bits real some fake). English, Italian, German, & Japenese cars from the 70's have all been part of my relationship with the two-seater. I even "riced" a 1979 Rx-7 in 1989 courtesy of JC Whitney while in High School. So please do not get me wrong I am by no means agains aftermarket modifications and like most people I have my own tastes and oppinions when it comes to mods. I was not trying to start any sort of isult to mods or anything like that. I merely thought the VERBAGE used to describe their products was funny. I too think their guage cluster looks nice for those of us who choose not to use stock guages it would be fine. I have seen their products for a while and have nothing but respect for any business that creates products for the 914. I simply though the NASCAR bit was really funny used to desribe a 914 product.

I also like the idea of the aluminum pedal board they sell. It would look good in a car with no carpet. I'm not going to make one and I'm not going to spend $90 for one. It's just nice to see people still thinking about new products for the 914. Jon
