DIzzy breaker plate ground for Pertronix?
I am installing a Pertronix ignitor into my 914 2.0L dizzy. When I went to install it, I found that the contact breaker plate ground wire was broken. The question is, with the electronic ignition system, does this ground wire matter? Can I just cut it and get rid of it or is the plate required to be grounded for proper operation?
Thanks! Chris |

The ground braid is definitely needed with the points. I think it probably is also needed with the Pertronix, but I am less certain.
Often, a broken ground braid is a sign that the points plates are old and worn enough that they should be replaced. Consider that, especially if they do not move smoothly. I believe the "contact breaker plate" from an injected VW Type III works. --DD
