Unhappy Where the hell are the shocks?

I was at the mechanic today, and he was telling me that Bilsteins and Koni's cannot be found anywhere in the US (i'm sure there are a few exceptions...)! Anybody know where the factories in Germany are? There was some bad floods a few months ago in teh Glasshutte region, maybe the factories got hit?

not sure. I was trying to track down some koni reds a month or so ago and had problems too. called www.shox.com and they looked in some super-computer which noted only 1 pair (forgot whether is was front or rear) left. they made it sound like koni was not going to be making them anymore for the 914. called rich johnson and got a pair of 2k mile used ones and a new pair. he had to "go to his sources" as they say.

I have purchased KONIs from Jason at Paragon Products. He seems to have a good supply.

I got mine from the ugly bird, not to long ago. Have they stopped stocking them?
They were red (not sure what that means) and are fully adjustable.

Should I not have painted them black

I just talked to a Bilstein guy today. He said the rear shocks for the 914 are in major backorder....

Seems the longshoreman strike has not helped him out any. I think he said he had 9 containers full of shocks waiting to find the port......big boats just out there sitting.

A little off topic ... anyone had experience with the Koni red shocks vs the yellow sport shocks for primarily autocross use? Shox.com recommended the yellows but I've never heard of anyone running them on a 914.

I heard that Bilstein didnīt have rear shocks for 914s about two months ago. They were all sold. Last week I get message from MittelMotor that they have get them now. I think Bilstein donīt manufactuure them all the time, but they make small series every now and then.

Koni yellows are good shocks. They adjust from stiff to stiffer to kidney-rattling. I'm thinking lately that they may be a bit too much for stock torsion bars and 140# rear springs, but I'm not sure on that yet. Have to drive the car some more to get a feel for that. (That would require fixing the d**n thing, wouldn't it??)

I know quite a few people who use them on autoX & time trial cars and are quite happy with them.
