passenger seat

Hi, I have a 1971 914-6 and the passenger (non-adjustable) seat back has 'slid' down on the outer side and you can see the beige backing. I tried to lift it up but no can do. What holds it in and how can I access any fasteners??
Thanks, Richard

I think that seat back cushion part comes out, but I do not know how. There should be two screws in that section that go through the firewall pad into the firewall. The top part of the pad has metal tabs that go up into slots on the firewall. If your rear window leaks, it is possible for the fiberboard to be weakened and the tab to pull out of the board.

Hi Dave, The car has not been outside for 20+ years so the board should not have gotten wet. I can see the u shaped device that goes up on the top of the cushion insert, but no fasteners that can be loosened to allow adjustment. But I agree, there has to be some someplace.

Hi Richard- Not a lot of original '71 Sixes left. My car is at Scotty's shop, Kahiko Customs & Restoration in VA and the interior is completely gutted. If you need a picture of the firewall to see the mounting points let me know and I will ask him to take some.
Best wishes,
Michael

Hi, yes I would love a shot of the passenger side. Mines 0338. Have had it for about 25 years and it's been in a warehouse. Got it out receintly and getting it going. Redid the fuel and brake systems, tires, etc., and the engine runs and sounds good. Biggest need is a paint job and it's supposed to go to the body shop next week.
Thanks, Richard

Richard- I will ask Scotty to shoot some pics of the passenger seat mounting hardware for you. It may take a couple days as I know he is currently snowed in.

Remove the upholstery panel that covers the firewall and it will be obvious how it goes together. You'll porobably need to re-glue some of the vinyl around the edges while you're there.
