Supercharging a 914

Just daydreaming here but has anyone ever attempted to affix a Judson supercharger to a 914? Or any type of supercharger for that matter? Seems like it could be installed where the AC compressor goes. The intake runner would rather long, granted. But would that be a huge issue. Again, just daydreaming...I still have a motor to rebuild. I guess I should get off of the internet and get back to the garage!

Could be. However, if I wanted a water cooled engine in a two seat Porsche, I would break down and buy a Boxster. Not what I want! I want to play around and put a supercharger on a type IV. Call me crazy if you want. Again, I was more daydreaming about possibilities. Just wondered if anyone had ever tried.

If you have a 914 and want to do "mechanical" things to it, there are several choices:

- Leave it stock as you'll have enough things to go bad to keep you busy.
- Make the type 4 bigger, $$$$$$ but lots of fun but $$$$$$$.
- Convert to a six, $$$$$ but it will last much longer.
- Add a turbo to the stock sized type 4 and many people have done that, $$$$$.
- Put in another engine such as Subaru or a Chevy V8, $$$$$$$$.

In all cases except #1 you will need extras such as suspension, transmission work, limited slip, bigger brakes, oil/water cooling systems, etc, etc, etc.

I'd say keep an eye on Samba.com and buy something already done.

Not even worth going there, you could build a ''full on'' T4 that would make the same power without the hassle of what you are planning, sorry not worth the load on your wallet.

Type 4 engine mods

If turboing it appeals, call CB Performance in Farmersville, CA for complete turbo kits with everything well worked out.

Have fun.

I built a 2.0 Type 4 for GT-3 SCCA, ran to 8500 RPM. Always wanted to turbo it..after lowering the compression from 12.5 to 1, or course.

nein14,

What are you doing? How dare you post a picture like that without giving us any details.

C'mon, spit it out Is this a custom package or did you buy it off the shelf?

That's a sight of pure beauty. Thanks for sharing.
