Wheel bearings
I'm just pretending to be a mechanic as I get this car running. Most things I wouldn't have a clue about if it wasn't for reading old posts around here! Thanks to everyone who has helped so far.
This car has been sitting for 20 years without being driven, and hopefully in the next year or so we'll get it back on the road. What do I need to have done to the wheel bearings or lubing other non-engine parts? I still have tires and brakes to go before we're ready to roll, but I don't want to go for my first spin and have all the wheels sieze in the first mile because all the grease had dried up! Thanks a lot! --Case...

The fronts come apart as a typicall front wheel weel bearing does; inner tapered needle, race, outer tapered needle, race. Lip seal on the inner, mounted in the brake disc, grease cap over the nut on the outer. At the very least, pull the cap off and use a needle on your grease gun and shoot some grease in there.
The rears are sealed, permanently lubricated. Don't guess you can do much there. There are some very good tech articles and posts on rear wheel bearing work here Karl P. |
