Tach hook up
I am putting a stock 914 tach in my 914 vintage race car. The best I can make out the 3 terminals are marked 1, 12 & " - ". Which one hooks to the coil and which is the hot? I believe I know, but I do not want to ruin a good tach.

Check the wiring diagrams, either B&W in the Haynes book, or full color available on this site!
The tach icon (a letter in the 74-76 diagrams, something that looks a little like a tach in the older-style ones) will have little numbers next to it. Match the numbers on the diagram to the numbers on the tach, match the wire colors, and you're tere! For a 74, the black and purple wire (from the points) goes to terminal 1. The red and white wire (switched power) goes to terminal 15. It isn't shown, but I believe the other terminal gets the brown ground wire. You can check for your own year. --DD |
