Porsche 914 Oil Recommendation

I understand from my mechanic that I need to run a motor oil that contains Zinc. What are your recommendations for oil that I can typically purchase at a large box automotive store? Thanks

Motor oil is one of those quasi-religious topics for gearheads. You'll find many opinions, and a fair number of people will defend their choices vigorously.

Valvoline VR1 racing oil (technically not for road use) has lots of fans. It has elevated zinc levels.

Brad Penn 20-50 I think still has the elevated zinc levels.

Joe Gibbs makes an oil that does as well. I believe that was developed in partnership with Jake Raby, noted Type IV engine builder.

Some like the Mobil-1 motorcycle oil. I'm not sure if all of those have elevated zinc levels or not.

We used to use diesel oils, but they were required to cut down on the Zn levels in recent years as well.

I use Swepco 306 or Brad Penn both have very high Z & P levels which are a requirement for solid valve train.

It no longer has enough ZDDP for me to be comfortable using it. (That is one of the diesel oils I referred to.)
